When did Six Flags Fright Fest start?

Did you know Fright Fest has been haunting Six Flags parks for over 35 years? It all started back in 1986, when Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, Texas, hosted an event called Fright Nights. Its success inspired the other Six Flags parks throughout the late ’80s and early ’90s.

In 1992, under Time Warner’s ownership, the event was rebranded as Fright Fest to create a unified Halloween experience across all parks. Over the years, it’s spread to even more locations, becoming a fall tradition for thrill-seekers across the U.S.

How does Fright Fest work?

During Six Flags Over Texas Fright Fest, the park goes from a regular amusement park to a bewitched theme park. While there are plenty of daytime activities, the real thrills begin once it gets dark. You’ll find haunted houses, scare zones, and live shows throughout the park.

Get ready for scare zones like Chainsaw Alley, Freak Town, and the Goblin Attack Squad, where staff will pop out of nowhere to startle you.

You might find yourself running from monsters with chainsaws or wanting to crawl out of your skin at the sight of creatures who look like they’re dead. If you want something even more intense, the haunted houses take you through some of the creepiest scenes you can imagine, drawing inspiration from Stranger ThingsSawThe Conjuring, and other classics.
